ABOUT US

rosemill-3.jpg

Rosemill belongs to me Tony, and my wife Linda. I'm an ex-patriate Yorkshireman who lives a long way away from the county of my birth.

It's true that you can take the boy out of Yorkshire, but not the Yorkshire out of the boy. For many years, I pined for the Moors and the Coast, and returned as often as Linda would let me.

When I was in a position to buy a holiday home, there was only ever going to be once choice, and that was the Yorkshire coast. On first seeing the house in Park Terrace, I was seduced by its spaciousness, the views of the Abbey and the Esk, and its proximity to the town and seafront. It was, as they say, love at first site.

Why call the house Rosemill?

One of Linda's ancestors was, so her family tradition has it, a French pirate who jumped ship on the North East coast. We're not sure if Rosemill was a name made up when he landed, or an anglicisation of his French name, but this was the name he took when he arrived in his adopted country. So it seemed a fitting tribute to call the house Rosemill in honour of a man without whom I would never have met my wife.

REVIEWS

“A really lovely place to stay. Clean and warm and very well set out. The lounge is sociable and has plenty of comfortable sofas (with extra bean bags for the children). A great place to spend a holiday break”
